They have a great following of players who turn up week in and week out to play and have formed a really nice community around table tennis.

Players of all ages get together and have fun. From the outside it's not much to look at, but when you get inside it's a wonderful dedicated table tennis center that has been built with passion for the game.

It is open Monday to Fridays between 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. it has several ping-pong tables and welcomes all people, whether members or not.

This is a fully-decked out professional grade Ping Pong club in Los Angeles California. It is furnished with 11 bright-red tables and has a very comfy club lounge with three full bars at your disposal.

This was one of the best places in town to play Ping Pong, grab a cocktail, have something to eat and have fun. SPiN is sponsored by the world famous Stiga table tennis company, which means the tables are guaranteed quality with an awsome bounce.

The Standard Downtown (Permanently Closed)

This is also known as the high-style hotel in LA. It has a classy rooftop pool and bar and water bed lounges. The ping pong bar is back-lit creating a cool theme and you will surely enjoy a game of in Los Angeles while at this hotel and bar.

This was a dedicated table tennis club for semi-professionals with members being taught how to play and improve on their Ping Pong in Los Angeles skills.

All the basics like serving a spin, return a spin, side-spin, were taught here. The coach here was Mary Lieu and she took private lessons at $50 per hour. She is considered one of the best around and attracts a really good crowd to the club.

You would not have been short of players to play with when you turned up. The crowd was very friendly and easy to approach. It can be a little intimidating when first going to a club, because the standard of the players can be quite high. Once you get to know people and get used to playing different players of all standard, this quickly goes away and you're off having great fun.

Outdoor Public Table Tennis Tables in LA

At the time of writing, it's not clear if there are any permanent, often concrete, public outdoor tables in the city. Many municipalities do fund pubic outdoor tables, for example in New York there is a bunch but for now it seems that L.A. is lacking in this regard. From time to time, temporary public tables do pop up. And it does look like there were a few public ping pong tables in some of the public parks before the recent pandemic, but these may have been removed. Here is a list of public parks where there used to be public outdoor tables in the past, but I cannot verify current status on the park websites or Google maps. If you want to get serious and start playing in a league with other competiive players. Los Angeles has a few leagues that you can join. This is for seriously players that want to player with semi-pro players and want to move on from playing at home or in ping pong bars.

Doubles Sectionals

Teams are composed of two players each in a tournament

Adult League Section championship

It involves players above the age of 21 who compete against each other for the championship. It's a great league where you can grow your talent by completing with mature competitors.

Mixed doubles league

A team has two people, but a man and a woman competing against other teams of a man and woman.

It's aways really important to have table tennis coaches on hand to give you some training on how to improve your game. If you're really keen and want to get better at ping-pong, a little coaching can really help. Coaches can give you the correct advice on how to hold the paddle, make correct strokes and stance at the table. All these three factors are important to help you step-up your game and show off your new skills to your friends.

Wei Wang

Wei is a former US champion and US Olympian and originally from China where she was part of the Beijing Provincial Team. She has an instructional DVD “Table Tennis 101” and writes for the national USA Table Tennis Magazine. With over 20 year’s experience, she is renowned for relaying technical information in an easy way to all players. She coaches at the Westside table tennis center and Pasadena table tennis center.

Gao Jun

Gao is the head coach at California Table Tennis Club and became the 1993 World Champion. Gao is also a 9-time US Women’s Champion. She became a US citizen in 1994 and represented the U.S. in the Olympics in 2000, 2004, and 2008. Gao was inducted into the USATT Hall of Fame 2009, same year she retired from active competition. However, she is still the highest-ranked rated women's player in the U.S.

Cherry Zhao

Cherry coaches at the California Tennis Club and is claimed to be one of the most effective coaches in the country. She is a graduate of Shanghai University and has won multiple championship titles in China. No easy task and she will give you unbelievely coaching tips!

Tang Liying

Tang coaches at the California Tennis Club and has won several championships. They include; 2014 LA Open Women's Single Champion, 2013 Berkley Open Women’s Single Champion, 2013 LA Open Women’s Single 2nd Place, 2013 US Open Women’s Single Quarter Final List, 2012 US Open Women’s Double 3rd place, 2011 China University Championships Team Champion, 2011 World University Games Team Champion and Doubles 2nd place, 2010 China Super League Team for East China University of Science and Technology, 2009 China University Championships Team Champion and Doubles Champion, 2009 World University Games Team and Women’s Single Champion, 2009 JOOLA North American Team 3rd Place. Tang was a member of the Chinese Shanghai Province Team between 2002-2007.

Stores are also good places to hang out and learn. The competition world really needs places where players can hang out, meet other table tennis player and check out new products on the market. When I was growing up, I would only ever get advice from my coaches or look at what other players are using.

Everyone is unique in their approach to ping-pong, so it's wise to seek out other players that have a similar style to you and see what rubbers or blades they are using. For example, back in the day, I copied my coach and used a Butterfly Gergely Paddle Blade which helped improve my game.

The Climate in Los Angeles

Los Angeles has nearly always a dry and warm summer. The winters are mild with lows of 9 degrees, and have occasional rain. This weather is okay for tennis and ping-pong games the whole year round. The warmest month is September and coolest December. July is the wettest and January the driest.
